At Every Turn

This quarter's issue of SWELL comes at you, our reader, from all directions. Such variety lends itself well to summer reading: take Jill Craig's "I'm Just Doing This For The Money" with you as you ride the bus or train to work; or enjoy Barry Frauman's poem "James Dean" in the park, watching an outdoor screening of a classic film. When you're sleeping in on Sunday morning, you may enjoy Wayne Lee Gay's sly inversion of a Bible story that reaches across into modern times, and you may need to read it again after the evening news. If you get wistful for better (or, if not better, more adventurous) times while enjoying ice cream on a sunny day, perhaps Janet Mason's "Art, 1977" will complement your mood. In the evening, if you find yourself feeling more pensive, recalling absent lovers, take up Ann White's evocative poems. If the work contained in this issue is not something for everyone, then at least you will find writing for every occasion, in any season.
